About
Where Prosperity Leaders Began
A story about one invitation, unexpected questions, and an organization built to meet a need communities already felt.
Our story
From one school day to a mission
Sebastian Rodriguez had already spent years in financial services and founded his own agency in Wall Street, New York, when he was invited to speak at a “Take Your Child to School Day” event—the first time he'd even heard of it. He prepared a speech on leadership: fathers can't ask their kids to read more and then spend the evening watching TV instead, because kids follow what they see, not what they're told.
After he stepped aside to let the other speakers continue, parents started approaching him—not about parenting, but about money. One after another, they began sharing what they'd saved: $5,000, $20,000, $50,000—and that their banks wouldn't teach them how to invest it because it “wasn't enough.” Question after question came, until the school director had to step in and ask the group to quiet down so the event could continue.
Sebastian hadn't come with business cards. Prospecting wasn't why he was there. Instead, he asked the director if he could teach a class through the school. She agreed, on the condition they'd wait and arrange it properly.
Over twenty people had approached him that day. It became clear that communities didn't just need financial education—they wanted it, and didn't know where to find it.
From there, Sebastian began partnering with schools, churches, and community organizations to bring financial seminars and workshops directly to the people who needed them. That work became Prosperity Leaders: an organization that connects families with financial professionals, so real knowledge and strategy are within reach of anyone pursuing their goals.
